“Blue”, “Wolf”, “Forest” and “Full moon” were the four words that the commissioner gave me. Here you see the idea that I got a few seconds after she had said them.
The mood in this particular painting differs from all the other ones I’ve made. Usually everything I create is more or less happy and full of joy, but this one is quite gloomy. This was intentional, for I wanted this painting to raise questions in a person viewing it. That’s why even the title is a question. Are there questions in your mind now?
Life always evolves and is in a constant state of change. The change (pictured as the stag that brings the autumn with him) is going to come,
whether we want it or not. There’s nothing we can do about the changing seasons, but we can choose to either accept the change or fight it. The way we choose to react will not affect the final outcome but it will greatly affect the way we feel about it. In this painting I wanted to convey the acceptance of constant change.
Tigers remain one of my favorite animals when it comes to my art subjects. In this artwork, the main idea was to make the stripes of the tiger to be formed by the leaves.

The illustrations of my calendars follow the cycle of the year. As I’ve lived my whole life in Finland, the change of the seasons is what I’ve seen here year after year.
I often have rather deep messages and meanings behind my paintings, some of which I only come to understand years after creating them. However, this time the story behind the picture is very simple: The deer is renting apartments for the birds. Also, a very good excuse for me to paint a great amount of details to keep myself entertained.
